Little girls love Hello Kitty. If we asked them to decorate the party, you can be sure its going to be all pink. I love that she loves hello kitty, I too would have been a fan when I was her age if we had such a thing as “Themed birthday parties” at our time. However, I sometimes feel with character parties, it’s hard to get creative because it’s all been done before. I didn’t want to have a party with anything I could buy in a shop that had Hello Kitty on it. So I worked with a palette that was less pink and more raspberry with black and white polka dots. Polka dots are always sweet so I used that as a pattern and incorporated them in to the design of the food tags, bottle wraps, birthday buntings food picks.
I found this 5ft ‘walker’ foil Hello Kitty balloon, that towered over most of our little guests. They each took turns to walk her around. We played games like tallest tower with baby marshmallows and spaghetti and ‘Pin the bow’ on the Kitty.
I strung circles with the letters of my daughters name for a festive bunting and decorated the park with red heart shaped balloons. The cake was a delicious red velvet cake with a seated Hello Kitty on the top, surrounded by individual kitty cupcakes.
For food we had Hello kitty shaped sandwiches, pink, red and chocolate macaroons, strawberry cream oreo cookies, bow shaped pasta and other treats. I used little food tent cards with customised names for each of the dishes. All set up picnic style on our polka dotted picnic blanket on red plates with Kitty themed napkins. For the favour bags, I filled brown paper bags with hello kitty toothbrush kits and mini red and pink thermos cups and other Hello Kitty themed small party favours. Each bag had a personalised tag and that cute little face stuck on.
