Elegant rustic barn wedding

The couple drew inspiration from their wedding location, we evolved the design from their original vintage, raw and rustic theme to a very elegant design for their wedding in the coastal regions of Norfolk, England and their ceremony in an old barn.

Their wedding story as told by Naomi Taylor:

“Simon was introduced to myself and my brother, Sebastian, over one of Dubai’s famous brunches by our lovely friend Lissa. We all hit it of straight away and Simon became a firm fixture in my life from then on.
Everyone who met him, thought he was fantastic and many pointed out that he has ‘a soft spot for me’, even my parents and friends from the UK to which I was thrilled about!
It wasn’t until 6 months after we met that we made the unconscious leap out of the ‘friend-zone’ and the rest is history I suppose!
3 years+ down the line, he finally(!!) popped the question over dinner for his 30th birthday in January 2013 much to my surprise and elation. The solitaire diamond engagement ring he had chosen was absolutely beautiful and apart from a little re-sizing, it was perfect! The wait was totally worth it.
We quickly set the wedding date for 7 months time and started planning our fabulous wedding in the UK. We couldn’t have done it without our parents unwavering help and support, who we had weekly and sometimes daily Skype calls with.
A friend recommended Reesha and after pushing her creative boundaries and I’m sure her patience, she produced the most amazing print pressed, colour prefect wedding suite that we could have imagined along with a beautiful monogrammed stamp!
The main colours we used were aqua and coral which were also carried through to the bridesmaid dresses,  groomsmen’s cravats, flowers for the bridesmaids/groomsmen and in the church and reception, table settings/decorations, favours, etc.
When we arrived at the church and then the reception on our big day, we were just blow away; all the hard work, creativity and attention to detail had really paid off and it all came together fantastically! Even though the day flew by for us, we have lots of incredible photos and so many lovely compliments in our guest book to remind us of our super special day.”

 Custom Monogram design

Their Pret a Papier story:

Naomi  had her heart set on letter press invitations for their wedding. One of my favourite methods to create a really elegant, beautifully crafted and textured design that feels as good as it looks.

The invitation suite was formally worded and featured a very ornate moulded design. The letterpress so beautifully complemented the intricate carved details of the design. The suite included information cards and RSVP cards. They decided to send of these classic invitations in a rustic kraft envelope, as the couple wanted to keep it from looking too formal. The on-the-day stationery suite featured an order of service booklet, menu for each table, folded place cards and complementing table number cards.

Naomi and Simon also commissioned me to design a custom monogram that could be made into a stamp to seal the back of their invitations. They later used this monogram on embroided napkins, dress robes and favour tags.

A barn can be the perfect place for a rustic or country wedding. Just like farm weddings, a barn wedding can be dressed up or dressed down to match the style and decor of your wedding and offer endless charm. Here are a few elements that can help you achieve this charming yet personable look.

  • On a budget? A barn offers so much natural appeal that major décor expenses can be pared down to allow the beauty of the space itself to shine through.
  • Use warm amber lights to highlight the wooden planked or old brick walls of your venue. Sussex Barn at Naomi’s and Simon’s wedding had these breathtakingly impressive iron chandeliers that were statement pieces by themselves. They kept the rest of the decor classically simple with tall candelabras and wild floral arrangements.
  • Breaking away from traditional expectations Naomi and Simon’s wedding cake was a cake made entirely of cheeses and decorated with nuts and dried fruit. They hand-picked their favourites Godminster Heart, Francis (whole cheese  Quickes Red Leicester, Cambazola, Ford Farm Cave Aged to make up the ‘cake’ tiers to treat their guests on their very special day.
  • Mason jars are ideal for a barn wedding. They can be creatively used as drink holders, vases and display and the forever classic mason jar lights. Naomi and Simon chose them as favours for the  home made chutney, made by two of the groomsmen, who are also chefs! They displayed them beneath a floral display.
  • Table linens  are best kept neutral with a pop of colour introduced in the place setting. Naomi and Simon chose a clean white setting with personalised napkins monogramed in aqua, but you can try a burlap runner or sprigs of wild flowers as napkin rings, depending on the style of your barn wedding.
